The Amache Silk Screen Shop was first opened in the Block 6E Recreation Hall barrack under the direction of Maida Campbell. ![]() Navy as well as countless prints for use within camp such as calendars, posters, and programs. This shop was opened with the intention of making the artist’s work accessible to the general public, and this accessibility is an explicitly Pop sentiment. The idea of opening a print shop stemmed from the growing frustration of trying to find a local printer to handle the needs of our retail store, Epidemic. The Amache Silk Screen Shop produced over 250,000 posters for the U.S. Haring created multiple Pop Shop portfolios during the span of his career, and may have a direct correlation with the Pop Shop that he opened in a retail space in downtown New York in 1986. This yellow figure is significantly larger than the two figures on the sides of the composition and stands with his arms raised above his head in an excited motion. They each extend one hand toward the center of the work where their first meet in the cavity of a third figure’s abdomen. Two of these figures, rendered in orange and blue, are placed at the bottom left and right corners on the composition. In this work, Haring illustrates three of his signature figures.
